The daily practice will include meditation times throughout the day along with three yoga classes. The daytime yoga will be vinyasa. Evenings will be Yin. Vipassana meditation or quiet, Insight meditation will take place at 8am, 2pm and 7pm for one hour. Meditation is not being taught. Participants are not compelled to meditate, merely welcomed.

This retreat ends after breakfast on Saturday Aug. 20

Morning Classes:

Post-meditation, each morning will begin with an invigorating vinyasa class.  In these classes, we will move from the physical reality of our body in the present moment through the chakra system in relationship to the world around us.  We’ll contemplate, breath, and explore the relationship between energy and asana.  Breathe, music, and movement will move us through interesting vinyasa cycles culminating to peak postures, back bending and then slowly back down to the earth.  With each inhale and exhale, we notice the changes in our current physical state; change is the only constant in our reality.  As with all classes during this workshop, these classes offer options for all-levels of yoga practitioners.

Afternoon Classes:

The afternoon offerings will be a variation of a vinyasa class.  At the beginning of the week, we will lab the fundamentals of Surya Namaskar A and B, refining our expression of the postures in these series- particularly chaturunga dandasana and downward-facing dog (adho mukha svanasana).  We will also explore more lunar flow sequences.

Evening Classes:

We will end each day with Yin yoga.  Yin yoga complements and balances the yang energy we will be embodying during the day-time classes.  Yin yoga nourishes the yin systems in the body and enlivens the connective tissues in the body such as bones, ligaments, and joints.  In this practice, we hold simple stretching postures of long periods of time, observe sensation, and be present with all and any experiences we might have.

In addition, we will perhaps watch a movie and/or do a reading/discussion about the history and lineage of yoga.  We will swim in the ocean, take moonlit saunas and dance in this beautiful Leviathan studio.  This time of the summer is one of the most magical times to be on Lasqueti Island.
