While here

Mission Statement:

To provide a place in nature to study movement and dance and meditation. Leviathan Studio is committed to sustainable practices and permaculture serving organic local food whenever possible. Committed to a safe, intoxicant free environment.

Lasqueti Island is a fragile environment. The Douglas Fir/Arbutus forest of Lasqueti is considered one of the 10 most At Risk ecosystems in Canada. During the summer months, during the drought, it is possible for the dirt to catch fire. Your cigarette butt may end this ecosystem. No camp fires, no incense, no candles.

While at Leviathan Studio, as much as we would like you to feel at home and that this is your home, please respect that in actuality, it is my home. Of paramount importance to your safety is the safety and respect for my neighbours. I cannot afford to have any more of my guests trespass against my neighbours. Once you leave the road you are trespassing. There are access roads to the ocean. Please know where they are before crossing someones property.

Contact Improvisation attracts some people who wish to challenge boundaries, it is recommended that you temper that tendency. Although you are supported in your efforts to break down old patterns of thought and ways of being,  keep it to the dance floor. If you are interested in some of the social aspects(versus serious study) of what Contact Improv has to offer I suggest you go to one of the many other wonderful events in the area. We are in the process of putting a links page of jams, both regular and annual.

We are providing a safe place for like-minded people who are serious about dance. Come and study seriously. The more we listen, the more we hear. The more we hear, the more we understand. The more we understand, the deeper the experience. Come and play seriously.

General Statement about group work…

  • Participants are asked to respect others who have paid and traveled to be in a workshop. Be mindful by not talking or conversing during class.
  • Please arrive in class on time and ready to begin at the scheduled times.
  • During class time, if you are in the class you are expected to participate.  There is always plenty of time outside of scheduled class time to converse with others or do your own practice.
  • Although the kitchen is attached to the studio, please resist the urge to walk out of class to get a drink. If you do go for some water, absolutely do not sit on the side having conversation with a friend. Of course, you are welcome to go for a walk and skip class, that is your choice.
